Modern Foreign Languages in Key Stage 4
During Key Stage 4 pupils continue to study the areas studied in Key Stage 3, but in greater depth. In addition to this they also study:
The World of Work
- Further education & training
- Careers and employment
- Language & communication in the Workplace

- Tourism at home and abroad
- Life in other countries
- World events & issues

As they study these areas students should:
- Acquire knowledge (vocabulary and grammar)
- Develop language skills (Understanding from gist and detail.)
- Develop language – learning skills (How to memorize and use language.)
GCSE Exam (French & Urdu)
In the final exam pupils sit papers in the following:
- Listening and Understanding 20% of the full course
- Reading and Understanding 20% of the full course
Controlled assessment during the GCSE course:
- Speaking 30% of the full course
- Writing 30% of the full course
Those students opting for Urdu will sit their GCSE examination at the end of Year 10 and then be prepared to sit the AS level examination at the end of Year 11.
